An Autumn Stroll at Pugneys

I do like Autumn, I have to say. and I especially like a family stroll, all wrapped up in the chilly air, walking through fallen, and falling, leaves before warming up with a nice brew. That’s what we decided to do on Sunday, so we headed to Pugneys Country Park in Wakefield for a walk around the impressive lake, watch some birds from the bird hide and play in the new (to us) play park there.

Obviously, being November, it started to rain as we were setting off, but you know what, walks in the rain are good for the soul so we still went, armed with rain coats and wellington boots. Our first stop on the way around the lake was the new park – I’m not sure actually how new it is but it’s new us right now, and it’s a really great addition to the park. Continuing Pugneys’ long standing Pirates of Pugneys theme there’s a sunken pirate ship and lots of wooden things to climb on, jump off and slide down, all set in a great sandy play area that makes it safe for the kids as well as fun. Who doesn’t love getting wet from the rain and then covered in sand at the same time.

The boys loved playing on the sunken ship and clanging on the musical stations.

After playing we walked around the lake, pausing for a look through our binoculars in one of the bird hides and admiring the lovely autumn colours of the trees before making our way to the cafe for hot dogs, burgers and nice warm drink.
