Strawberry Picking and Tractors: A Day Out on the Farm

We love a sunny day out on the farm, and one of our favourite farms to visit is Farmer Copley’s near Pontefract. We often visit for Strawberry picking and always in October for our pumpkins. Recently we had our first visit to their Summer Festival, a day of events and fields full of things for the kids to do.

It was the first time we’d been to this event and as we pulled up it was clear that there was plenty to see and do. Our first thing on arrival was to have a sit in one of the army jeeps that were there, NJ loves cars and jeeps and this was great for him. Day out on the farm army jeep

Next on the route were a field full of tractors of all shapes and sizes. NJ has always loved tractors so this was always going to be cool for him, but J-Bubb has also just started really liking tractors too so to see these, especially the huge one’s, was a great moment for him.

We even got to have a ride in a cart being pulled by a tractor, which is great fun around the field.

After a spot of lunch from the fabulous hog roast food truck, we grabbed some ice creams and found a spot in front of the arena, which was nicely out of the wind and perfectly in the sunshine. Whilst there we watched a great local dance group, a dog show, some dogs playing fly-ball, a strong man pulling a tractor and a Land Rover, which was all great fun.

Eventually it was time to move on, but we couldn’t leave at this time of year without heading out to the strawberry patch and picking our delicious strawberry’s. The boys really enjoyed this and completely got in to the spirit. What a great thing to do as a family on a lovely sunny summer’s day, wandering around a strawberry patch down on the farm.

The only thing left to do was have a taste!

Days out don’t often come much better than ones like this. Entry was free, the sun was shining, the boys were brilliant, really enjoyed themselves and had a great time

Strawberry picking is awesome! I think they’re all done now at Farmer Copley’s – just raspberries and gooseberries left now! Still good fun though!
