Is there Room on the Broom? A spring day out at Anglers Park
With the weather fairing up and a Sunday with no plans made, this last weekend we decided to head out for the day, and we chose Anglers Park in Wakefield as our destination. Having never been before we’d heard that there was a Room on the Broom inspired trail for the kids and thought that they’d love it, so we headed the half hour down the M1.
With a first stop at the reasonable little cafe for a spot of lunch and some energy the boys first of all wanted to play in the great playground there. Loads of things to climb up, slide down and jump from, NJ is really becoming quite the daredevil whilst J-bubb was really in to climbing up the couple of climbing wall style pieces.
Then it was about time to go grab our packs from the visitor’s centre and hit the trail!
The trail takes you around the park’s impressive lake, about 2 miles in circumference, and although the car park was full, it was quite peaceful walking around as we kept our eyes peeled for trail markers, clues and animal tracks. Along the way we ran into all of the characters featured in Julia Donaldson’s brilliant classic tale of a witch and her growing posse of friends riding on her broomstick, fending off a dragon and magically casting the spell that gives them the ride of their lives.
There was, of course, the Witch, her Cat and very tall hat:
There was the dog:
The frog:
The dragon, as fierce as can be:
There were letters to collect, in order to make a key phrase from the book:
A cauldron, for the spell, Iggetty, Ziggetty, Zaggety, ZOOM!:
… out rose a truly magnificent broom:
All in all a really great day, topped off, as all good days out should be, with an ice cream!
